Propper filter sizing

I'm curious about this. Our free pool came with a 150lb sand filter. Instead of using it I found a deal on a Hayward C1250 canister and went that way instead. It is 120 sq/ft and the pool is 24' x 52". It seems to work great. Good flow and I only need to clean it every 2 or 3 weeks. I use a filter sock and change it every morning.

Technically speaking, is this filter about right for a 24' pool?

Not technical, but that answers your question pretty well.....I'd say you have a good match.

If you want a really technical answer, find how much gpm your pump produces in that pool from the manufacturer. Then find out how much gpm the filter is rated for. If the filter rating is a little (or a lot) greater than the pump gpm, you have a great match.
