leak in sand filter

What is the best way to seal a leak in the drain at the bottom of a sand filter? I have air in the system and I do see a small leak at the bottom where the drain is.

Your filter leak isn't the source of the air. Air has to come from a leak before the pump, meaning the plumbing from the skimmer and drain to the pump basket, or in the pump basket itself.

Try putting some pool lube on the threads and the rubber gasket on the drain cap.
