Seasonal Pool Pump ?

This is my first year with a Summer Escape seasonal pool and I'm anticipating (based on what I've read) the pump going out sometime this summer. Our pool has an in-wall skimmer with pump (see attachment). I'm wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with these and if so what would you recommend replacing it with?

If the pump is removeable, I would see if you could add pvc pipe to the opening in the bottom of the skimmer and attach it to a 1/2 hp pool pump.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. The pump is replaceable, so I'm sure I could make a pvc fitting for it.

Any good suggestions on brand and type?

Unless you plan to trade up to a larger size pool in the future, any of the major brands in 1/2 hp should be fine. if you do think you may upsize eventually, get a 1 hp 2 speed pump and run it on low. I have been happy with my Pentair pump the last 5 years.

What type of filtration system; sand, filter DE?

Any good online websites to grab a deal?

Most feel sand is easiest to work with. I like DE myself, but it is a lot of work. Lots of folks look for a good used filter and/or pump on Craigslist.

I have the same problem you are looking at. The skimmer with the pump attached to it. I bought a sand filter and pump for it because I added a salt system this year and the hanging pump wasn't large enough and with 6 labs swimming in the pool the simple filter was not doing the job.

have you figured out how to get the hose attached to the skimmer without the old pump?

the pump i had with the pool still worked great when I converted but because I didn't remove it to attach the new one it is clogged up and have no choice but to pull it off so I can use the sand filter.

sand vs DE. sand cheaper to buy and run will clean most particles out of the water. DE costs more to use and because of the fine particles also needs replacing often. just what I was told. bought a new metal frame intex pool and 14" sand filter with 3/4 horse single stage pump for $150 well worth it to convert. bought off craigslist.org
