How to clean sap ring? Help!

I have a ring of tree sap right at water level on my AGP. I have tried Muratic, Mr Clean bar, etc. Nothing works... Does someone have a trick up their sleeve for removing stubborn sap from the waterline?

I've used Goo-gone for pine sap; not in a pool but I don't think it'd be a problem. Smells better than mayonnaise, especially after sitting in the sun all day...

rubbing alcohol will cut sap easily, but I don't now what it'll do to fiberglass or a liner- maybe someone else out there knows if that's a bad idea
14'x28' vinyl liner inground 3.5-6' deep wedge hopper 15000 gal (used to say 13000- I calculated wrong), 1 hp pump with sand filter, 2 returns, 1 fountain, traditional chlorinated, pool house.
