CYA and backwashing

Stupid question.. I am using the sock method.. 1.75lbs of CYA at a time.. do you wait a week to backwash AFTER all of the CYA has dissolved, or do you just not backwash the week it is dissolving, or both?

I had zero CYA in my pool and have added 3.5lbs over the last two week and I am still only barely reading 5-10.

I would wait to backwash at least 3 or 4 days after adding CYA. A week to be totally sure. How often are you backwashing? Are you clearing a green pool and having to do it frequently because of this?

3.5 lbs of CYA would really only get you to about 17 ppm. Should be higher than 5 to 10 unless you lost some.

Are you using the sock method in the skimmer or in front of the return?

If in the the skimmer, I'd wait as 257 said.

If in front of the return, you should be able to backwash when needed with little CYA loss.

I am using the sock method in the skimmer.. I was only backwashing because my filter gets dirty after brushing and running the polaris.

Trying tieing it off in front of the return - go ahead and add another couple of pounds.
