Level of sand in pool filter???

Just recently changed the sand in my filter and it seems high to me. Label calls for 175 lbs of sand and I would say its about 85 to 90 % full.

Is this normal for sand pool filters. The model I have is a Sandmaster SM1906T. The level od the sand that I took out was a little less than 1/2.

The typical full level for most sand filters with a top mounted MPV is 12-15" from the bottom of the MPV. This allow the water to be filtered to be dispersed across the the sand bed's surface when filtering and when backwashing, is high enough to only allow the cruddy stuff out.

Hi and thanks for the response. I forgot to mention that it is a top mounted MPV. I'll recheck the measurement tomorrow and thanks or the advice.
