Union for 2 inch variflo

I am replacing my 1.5 inch vari-flo valve with a 2 inch valve. The old valve had specialized hayward unions going to the pump and on to the plumbing. Should I purchase a set of Hayward unions for the new vari-flo valve, or would a set of standard 2 inch male to female or male to slip unions work as well? It appears the Hayward ones are more forgiving for attachments that are not completly straight. Thanks for any help.

I've had good luck with the plain old home depot schedule 40 unions. In 2", they're something like $6 each.
