Hello all. Completed the borate add this weekend. Just tested (after 48hrs) and levels seem to be right on at 50ppm....the ph however is through the roof 8.5 and TA up to 130. So now I'll start to lower both with acid. Should I take it easy and try to step the ph down with smaller doses of acid? Anyone else end up with high ph/TA after adding borax and muriatic acid? Thanks for all the great info on this site, new here but a 13 yr vet pool ownership!

You want to bring the PH down fairly quickly, but it is best to change the PH in a couple of steps. It is tricky to calculate large PH changes exactly and you don't want to accidentally add way too much acid, so it is better to do perhaps half or two thirds of what you calculate you need, let it mix for 30 minutes to an hour with the pump on, retest, and continue to adjust from there.
