Pentair Intelliflo VF RS485 communications protocol

Hi All,

I recently just upgrade my pool pad with an intelliflo VF pump. Its a beautiful piece of gear! I also made a FPGA based controller for it, where it also takes care of all my jandy actuators, backwashing, chlorinator and solar heating system. The only problem is I cannot find the protocol for the VF pump anywhere. Has anyone managed to interface to the intelliflo VF using their own controller or a PC? I have just setup a RS485 half dulplex connection to my pump and was hoping to talk to it. If anyone has any info that would be great.

If your happy to help out, im happy to share my design with anyone who also wants to automate these four tasks with a single controller. Im using an open source FPGA based Nanoboard 3000 as the controller.

Thanks,
steve

Welcome to TFP!

I believe that the IntelliFlo pump communications protocol is proprietary. No one has posted anything about it anywhere that I know of, though Hayward seems to have reverse engineered it for the AquaLogic/ProLogic line. Pentair has some motivation to keep it proprietary.

The best way to reverse engineer it would be to get a Pentair controller and watch the messages that go past when it is talking to the pump.
