Are 8 mil covers worth the money or should I just go with the more expensive one that is about twice the money?

My personal opinion is the paying more MIGHT get you an additional year or two (if you follow the care and use instructions, handle it carefully and store it properly and are OCD about your chemistry.) You might see a few degrees temp difference from the heavier thickness.
I'm happy with my current 8 ml cover.
