NESPA Pool and Spa Show in AC

I will be going on Wednesday and Thursday.

Anyone else going? I love it when I can shake hands with people I've met on line. Putting a face to a name is always a good thing.

    Anyone need something checked out?

    Hey Scott

Unfortunately, no AC show this year

I do, however, get to go to Baystate's BIG shindig at Mohegan Sun (at least the boss is springing for hotel rooms so we get to go both days and can concentrate on the seminars and show while still getting in our casino time )

    Enjoy the show!

Wait just a minute. Casino time? Wouldn't that constitute gambling?

You wouldn't want to shake my hand at either convention: I frequent our local Indian casino and walk past all of that ring-a-ding-ding cacophony and vice only to find my place at the buffet. (I know... bo-oor-rring.) And I know better than to bring my mother when she's visiting from back east -- would never be able get her out of that place!

Re: NESPA Pool and Spa Show in AC

Just some key points I saw today:

Hayward was showing a new low end 4 relay, 3 actuator controller. No docs yet. Not built in salt cell transformer but it does have the receiver plug for an Aqua-Rite's controller cable. Can handle Solar and a gas fired heater, but I don't know how they prioritize yet. I will try to get more info tomorrow.

Jandy/Zodiac now has a combined combined chlorinator-Nature 2 devices, both for TriChlor tabs and another with a salt cell. I almost lost it when I heard the booth attendant suggest to a visitor at his booth that by putting one in, you'll get more for your openings because you know he has one and needs a new cartridge! Do it for the revenue and profits, not because it benefits the customer. Nice attitude, not.

Jandy now has a new model single speed pump to replace both the Hayward Super Pump and Pentair Whisper Flow. It comes with a riser for the base to accommodate the higher suction port of the whisper flow. I am not sure how the Whisper Flow and Super Pump's exhaust ports line up.

I like the way the Legacy heater is laid out. Easy to work on things like the high limits, temp sensor, pressure switch and it's feed tube, and control board. I am not sure about getting at the control panel but I like that it flips in and out of site and out of the weather.

Loop-Loc now has Ultra-Loc2 to replace Ultra-Loc. Tougher material and a cover for a 16x32 is one pound heavier than the original Ultra-Loc. It looks like I will be replacing my 10 year old Loc-Solid with Ultra-Loc2 next year. After having had my labs and shepherd race across it like an extension to the yard for so long, it's shot anyway. In all honesty, I was vary, vary leery about replacing my old Loc-Solid with Ultra-Loc. That concern is now gone with the new material being used.

    More tomorrow.

    Day 2 Musings:

Spec now has a 3 speed 1 HP pump that uses similar motor types to the Pentair and Jandy multi-speed offering. It's priced about the same as a standard 2 speed. It's speeds are preset. It's a very basic design and just might be worth looking at for simple replacement applications. No RS485 so automation control is out. TImer or On/Off switch on/off only.

Auto Pilot's Total Control allows for fluctuations in temperature in deciding how much chlorine to generate. The new heat pumps are SUPER quiet. Had a very productive discussion with Sean and Kathy at the Auto-Pilot booth. I like the newest model heat pump. Very quiet! Very quiet indeed! Usually, the fans on heat pumps generated a substantial roar of air and vibration. Not even a hint with Aqua-Cal. I want one when my heater finally croaks.

A new product I don't remember seeing before is ACID Magic. It's buffered Muriatic acid that doesn't burn skin. The guy poured in over hand, into a bowl. Then took an egg and the shell bubbled off, leaving the membrane and it contents alone. I thought it was pretty neat.

I didn't get to talk to anyone at the Hayward booth about the new low end controller.

Olympic/Kelly Coatings wants to see the full sized pics of what I did to restore a fiberglass pool using their Gunzite and Zeron products. I told them I need to ask the homeowner first. I doubt it will be a problem but I have to do right by the customer first. The booth person at the show was drooling for a success story when she saw what was on my cell phone screen.

Thanks Scott for your reports. Everything sounds really quite good. Especially interesting to me is that Acid Magic. Any guesses as to whether it is on the market now; I wonder how widely available it is/will be.

Looking forward to hearing more from you, if I assume correctly that there are more days to this show.

    Thanks again~
