Old Pump just died

If you've got the money to invest up front a variable speed model is the way to go, IMO. Economically the right 2 spd pump comes pretty close to matching up, but a VS has a lot of advantages including but not limited to:
- Flow flexibility: Great for fine tuning water features, cleaners, and so on.
- A better motor: Permanent magnet models are much simpler, better sealed, longer lasting, etc. than induction motors.
- Less noise : The claims of 10 dB seem pretty optimistic, but VS pumps are very quiet. Again, 2 spds are pretty quiet on low speed too.
- Geek Appeal: They're cool.
