New pool owner using BBB and basic first pool readings

Until my Taylor test kit arrives next week (K-2006), I'll have to resort to using the installers supplied test strips. It was filled two days ago, and the pump has been running since then.

    FC 3
    TA 80
    PH 7.8

I'm assuming these values are OK for now. Can't test CYA, but I asked when they were adding to add lower rather than a higher amount, so he said it should work out to be about 20-30.

At the moment I'm using trichlor in the chlorinator until I get my test kit and switch to bleach.

Does it look like I'm good to go for now?

Yup Keep an eye on the PH - it is a tad high. When your kit arrives retest the PH and then you can decide if you want to lower it a bit.

    Thanks frustratedpoolmom....

The installer told me to watch the PH with the vinyl as it can damage it. Problem is I can't remember if it was high PH that can damage the vinyl, or to low a level....

Low PH - how long of a period that it's low before damage occurs isn't clear.

High PH + high TA + High CH can cause Scale, even on Vinyl.
