if it was a losing battle this website wouldn't exist because one of the foundations of it would be flawed. keep it up, you can see many threads of how difficult it can be. get reagent sooner than later.

Why are you shocking so high? I thought your CYA was 60....your shock level is 24....???

Hang in there. Do you have a Leslie's by you? Some stores stock reagents.

Despite the ammonia test results - I think you did have an ammonia issue. I think you are seeing the "end of the road" stage....you oxidized most of the ammonia when you were seeing really high CC levels and the test revealed a residual amount left. Hang in there, keep shocking, it's the only way to get rid of it.

Thanks a lot.......I thnk I had this problem since I moved in the house 3 years ago.....Never really tried to figure pool chem. out until now....Just did what the pool store said....

I have ordered more reagent for the tf test kit, but is this the same thing from leslies to hold me over till it arrives?

Might actaully be getting somewhere now....Just tested 2.5 hours after adding bleach and levels were FC 20.5 and cc 1....

I also backwashed the filter nd it poured out the brownest gunk I've ever seen for avout 4 minutes.....Maybe contributing to the problem....
