masking tape residue

I've finished painting the concrete deck around the pool and it's beautiful. But there's one last problem to solve. I used masking tape (3M Painter's Grade) on the plastic rim of the pool. When I removed the tape it left quite a bit of adhesive on the plastic. It's very sticky to the touch. Bugs are getting caught and dying. I need a suggestion of a cleaning substance that will be effective, but will not be a problem if a small amount gets in the pool water.
