Leaking between tank body and seal plate

I have a sta-rite p2ra5f-125l pump. Its a dura-glas series pump.

It has not been used for years and I've been rebuilding it. I started with a new motor which I successfullyn replaced with new shaft seal. Then I found a crack in the seal plate. I purchaed a new seal plate (PENC203-193P) and it came with a square shaped round o-ring. When I assembled the tank body (c76-47p) and seal plate togeter, I found the stainless steel metal clam no longer fits - the new o-ring make it so wide that I can't thread the nut through to tighten. It was really hard to place the o-ring because the tank body does not have a groove for the o-ring.

Interestingly enough, the old assembly did not have an o-ring between the seal plate and tank body. If I put the o-ring outside between the seal plate/the tank body and tighten with the stainless steel clamp, I get a leak.

Looking for advise
