Pool with Safety Fence, Pool cover

I have a 24ft above ground pool with a safety fence. It seems to destroy pool covers. I am looking into getting a fine mesh cover this year. What is the best way to secure the cover without destroying it?

Could you post a picture? Or at least describe what sort of fence, and how close to the pool it is?

I use clips and the wire. Cover never lasted more than one year. I just get a cheap one every year. Here is a pic I grabbed from streetview.

{add this} Looks like I haven't put the wire thru yet this year.
