    CH and Scale Question

Would you consider CH of 525 warranting the use of a regular anti scaler? If so what product do you recommend?

Re: Bioguard Stain and Scale ingredients

525 CH is normally fine. Certainly by itself it does not warrant the need for a scale inhibitor of any kind. The important number is the aggregate value of your CSI. This takes into a account your pH, TA, CH, temperature, CYA, salt... etc to indicate whether or not you will have scaling, neutral or corrosive conditions.

Can you post a full set of test results, especially pH, TA? If you can post those, we can walk you through how your CSI looks.

Are you referring to numbers for your pool or for a spa? Just asking because of the forum location of this thread. If it's for a pool, I can move it to an appropriate forum as it is.

    Re: CH and Scale Question

525 ppm CH is very manageable for your pool. If you can post full test results, I can give you recommendations on where you should try to keep your pH and TA to avoid scaling.

With a slightly high CH, you'll want to make sure you lower your TA to 70-80 ppm and then you should be fine as long as you keep your pH at 7.8 or less. No need to use a scale inhibitor product if you do this.

    Re: CH and Scale Question

Thanks JV. My TA is usually 110-120, so I need to keep up with it more. So far I havent noticed any runaway scale but there is some evidence at the water line around the tiles.

Waterline and saltwater cell are the first two places where it starts to show up.
