Pump injects debris into pool when starting in AM.

HI. I have a large in ground pool with a sand filter and like to shut down the filter at night to save electricity. Recently, when I re-start the pump in the AM yellow debris re-enters the pool for the first 2-3 minutes. Now I am vacuuming far too often. I always backwash after vacuuming and when I re-start the filter after completing the backwash, the water is clear when it re-enters the pool. I have lots of trees around the pool. My sand filter is at least 30 years old.

Thanks,
alan

Thank you very much for your response. The answer is "no". I have never tried that procedure in 25 years of cleaning the pool. Sounds like I should try that option?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I have never attempted that procedure. Would you be able to describe the procedure to me?

Thanks for the help.

Sounds like you need to read this which describes the best way to backwash your filter (just click on the blue wording below)

To deepclean a filter read this post (which also has some handy videos of the process

notobik may be right, but once you open your filter to clean it it should be obvious is anything is not right. A broken lateral is another possibility. But lets just get it cleaned first as that should only take about an hour and see how it then performs. If it doesn't resolve the issue or if anything looks odd to Alan he can always post back here for more advice
