Repair or Replace Hayward heater

I have a Hayward H400IDL heater for about 10 years. Yesterday I noticed the heater exchange started leaking. Do you think it is a good idea to replace it or just repair it? I have 40k gallon salt water pool.

what size and what model would you suggest? The 400k btu unit seems to take forever to heat the pool.

Also where would you buy it? My pb suggested to replace also, but quoted $2900 for a raypak or pentair.

400K is the largest BTU you can buy for home use.

$2900 for a 400K Raypak installed?? I've seen them well over $3K installed.

To be fair, you're not operating at optimal efficiency with a leaking heat exchanger. A 400K btu should be fine for your pool.

it just started leaking this sunday. It has always taken forever to heat.

At 40,000 gallons, a 400,000 BTU heater will only get you 1 deg/hr of temp rise

Just get the 400K Raypak as a commercial unit will be way too expensive to install. NO you do not need the cupro nickel heat exchanger. Just take care of your water and keep it balanced and you will not have any issues.

I have never seen where a 400K unit wasn't large enough for a residential pool. If you want to help your heat ups and also retain your heat better, buy a solar cover for your pool and keep it on during the cool months.
