Water tubes for cover in winter?

We are looking for a better solution to secure a leaf guard for our custom pool this winter. One side of pool is higher than the other and we want to be able to use the hot tub easily. Do these fare well in cold weather/below freezing? Any other ideas that don't cost an arm and a leg? We have a ton of oaks that surround our yard. Thanks for any input.

They work, but tend to leak over repeated use (some cheap ones leak from the start). You need to underfill to leave room for expansion.

Hmmm hadn't thought about expansion...so if I choose this route I need to get the thickest gauge I can find....thanks!
