New pool

Hi guys, I just got my new pool turned over to me from the replastering , I did my first check and the PH was 8.4 . Am I right is assuming that I should get the PH stable before adding of the other chemicals?
I do not want to ruin my new plaster .
I am working with fresh water now, I will convert it Salt when I get the fresh water stable

Yes, do what it takes to keep your pH in the 7's.

Add half the amount of acid you are being told to add, then re-test.

823oz of acid?? That sounds like WAY TOO MUCH acid to add to a 24,000 gallon pool.

Is that a typo?
What calculator are you using?
What is the percentage of the acid you are using?
What pH level are you attempting to shoot for?
What is your TA?

If you think you're at pH of 8.4 - with pump running, add enough to get to 7.8 and retest in 30 minutes. Keep adding until you get to 7.8 - as you could be above 8.4 to start with. After you are stable at 7.8, lower the pH to your desired level. Leave pump running while adjusting levels.

Please post a full set of test results.
