I have a Doheny 1.5 HP pump that is just a little over a year old that quit working and was outside of the warranty period. I went ahead and bought a Hayward replacement, but really I probably should've just fixed the Doheny pump. When you turn it on it just hums, so I'm thinking its something simple like a capacitor. I can't guarantee it is the capacitor, so if you are interested just keep in mind that it may not be worth buying. However, after researching on this site and other places, from the symptoms it has it is probably a bad capacitor and would be cheap to fix.
