This is my first full summer with the BBB method. Last summer and earlier this summer, my CYA was high so I didn't have to add as much chlorine. My CYA has now drifted down to 27 (per pool store/40 per my test kit) and I feel like I am adding chlorine a lot - I usually add 2 bottles a day and if I don't, chlorine drops to almost 0. My pool stays covered except when we are swimming, so I think that would help with the loss to sunlight?

My question is if I should raise my CYA level a bit? If so, can I use some of my shock packets I have left over from my old ways? I haven't been able to get bulk chlorine so it is time consuming and a pain to add so many bottles each week.

Thank you for any input!

Before adding any CYA, I would perform an OCLT to see if there is anything growing in your pool that is consuming your chlorine.

If so and you need to SLAM, you don't want your CYA any higher than it is now.

When you are ready to raise it, your shock packets will be fine to use.
