What order to do things

I'm a brand new pool owner, and over the last month I tried to clear up cloudy green water using test strips. I wasted a lot of product on wildly fluctuating readings.

I now have a Taylor K-2006 test kit, have drained and refilled my pool, and want to adjust it correctly.

I want to know what order to adjust readings and how slowly to go.

My water is slightly cloudy blue.

Today's test:
TA 220
pH 8
CH 150
No chlorine.
I didn't test for stabilizer, but I haven't added any.

Thanks!

.

Lower your pH to around 7.5.

Immediately after that, add enough stabilizer to get to 40 ppm.

Immediately after that add chlorine to get to 8 ppm

Keep chlorine at 8 ppm for 48 hours.

If pool is still cloudy, SLAM the pool.

Adjust the chemistry one after the other but not simultaneously.

Hello and welcome to TFP! If you have any questions about Dave's instructions please let us know. FYI - since you have the K-2006 test kit, you can test FC using the 10 ML water sample size. Just test FC as follows:
10ml sample with one heaping scoop of powder. Add drops until Barbie pink goes to clear. Multiply drop count by 0.5 (divide by 2)

Example: 10 drops = FC of 5.

Nice to have you with us.
