chlorine dropping rapidly

Hey there,

We get the chlorine to the right balance, then within 3 days the level is back to near zero. We got a floating tablet in there now. run the pimp at 2k from 10-5 then 3400 with the vacuum from 7-9pm. stumped on whats going on. It doesnt seem normal to have to add this much chlorine. PH is usually good, and doesnt fluctuate quickly. Any help would be great, thank you.

As others have mentioned - more reading in pool school is required to wrap your head around the process.

To answer your Pool Service question more specifically :

Pool services tend to elevate the chlorine level to "shock" the pool each week and then leave a Tabs in a floater or chlorinator to maintain the rest of the week. In order to compensate for not properly chlorinating the pool they also tend to add phosphate removers and algecide to help keep algae from growing.

Overtime levels of CYA, Copper and/or calcium build up to the point where the pool has constant "issues" - so you drain the pool and start over.

The things you'll learn here are a more science based approach to pool care management.

Regardless - "Chlorine" (Hypochlorous Acid) is used up everyday and must be replenished from some source.

how did you get those numbers? We strongly advocate for pool care which starts from reliable and accurate testing. It's impossible to make recommendations if you don't know exact levels of the chemicals in the water.
