Question Aquabot bouy distance from unit??

Does anyone know how far the bouy is supposed to be positioned from the unit? I have an Aquabot Elite RC. Bouy location is critical to the functioning of the unit but it is not mentioned in the manual or troubleshooting guides. My clip came loose, I thought I put it back in the right spot, but it won't stay on the bottom of the pool and keeps floating up and even onto its back. I am sure that is the problem.
