Used last of a bottle when waiting for fill. Increased water by 20k gallons , been adding bleach at night. Bright and sunny right now just wondering what to add first , start adding ph decrease and alk now or start with cya and do chlorine at night.
Fc .03
Tc .26
Cc .23
Ph 8.1
Ta 63
Cya 3

Why are you using an algecide? We recommended PolyQuat 60 and only as insurance (going on vacation) or special circumstances like doing an asorbic acid treatment.

Do you have one of the recommended test kits? You numbers look a little weird. We don't trust pool store numbers. We recommend the TF-100 and here is a comparison of kits: Pool School - Test Kits Compared

You need to adjust PH first, add the CYA by putting it in sock and hanging it in front of a return. 8.1 is sometimes the limit of the PH test, so your PH could be higher, so test afterwards to see if you need more. You don't need to wait before adding the CYA. Put the CYA in a sock and hang it in front of a return. Give it a squeeze occasionally.

You can add chlorine 30 minutes after adding the acid. What form of chlorine are you adding? We recommend liquid bleach which can be found cheaply at Wal-Mart. You can get the 8.35% or 10%. Other forms of chlorine are more expensive and add to the other chems, either calcium or CYA.

When you say "put cya powder in a sock and hang it in front of a return" do you mean a pool side jet return? would pitting sock in skimmer suffice? Also is liquid CYA just as equally efficient as powder ? ?

For CYA, yes, most people like to hang their sock in front of a pool side jet return. I prefer the skimmer method for a couple of reasons. Liquid is fine just 2x the cost.

Have tf-100 xl with yes the speedstir ha. These are from store as I'm still learning to use kit properly. Was given a ton a baquacil products only added some algistat when water sat under construction.
Stay out of the pool store :)

Are you planning on having a baquacil pool?

If it's in the skimmer you want the pump running, so that is through the pump/filter and then back to the pool. That is another advantage of hanging a sock, you don't have to run the pump continuously until it dissolves.

Socks full and hanging, gonna add some ph decrease now, then go ahead and add some chlorine now or wait? No stores for me tfp all the way! Yes been using liquid chlorine 12.50% and plan on just 8.25 after Chem is ok

If you can get 12.5% for a good price, that's is just fine to use. Muratic acid is better than pH down, it's at Home Depot/Lowes/paint stores and maybe Wal-Mart.

Give a full test with your TF-100. Trust your testing, ask questions if need be!

It is best to wait 30 minutes between the time you add the ph decrease and the chlorine. Acid+chlorine will make chlorine gas which can be deadly.

FYI, you can buy muratic acid at Lowes or Home Depot to reduce PH at a fraction of the cost of the pool store "PH decrease".

Either 12.5%, 8.25% or 10%, it is your choice, but get the freshest you can find. The stronger the bleach the faster it will degrade, so make sure to check the date codes on the 12.5 and 10% stuff. You can get the 8.25 or 10% stuff at Wal-Mart.
