New Install - does adding salt affect the ph?

Actually I have a semi-related question to that: How reliable are the test strips that come with the Intex pump?

The 4 way dip and read is returning

FC around 3 (the only thing I've added is bleach)
ph maybe between 7.2 -7.6
TA between 80-120
CH 250

I'm planning to add the salt tonight so I can use the SWG this weekend. Will adding it have an effect on any of the readings?

Which parameter is most unstable? What else should I be monitoring? Should I be watching specific gravity?

Adding the salt won't effect any other levels. The strips are not worth the paper they are printed on unfortunately. You must have a reliable (recommended) test kit - TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C. Do not settle for anything less. Make sure you add stabilizer for a CYA of at least 70 for a SWG pool.

To increase CYA via granular stabilizer, place the required amount as calculated by the Poolmath calculator into a white sock and place in the poolside skimmer basket. For those concerned about suction flow to the pump, suspending the sock near a return jet or from a floating device will also suffice. Best never to allow undissolved granules to rest directly against the pool surface. Squeeze the sock periodically to help it dissipate. Once dissolved, consider your CYA adjusted to that programmed (target) level. CYA test readings should show a rise in 24-48 hours, however some pools may experience a longer delay to fully register. Best to confirm final CYA in about 5-7 days before adding any more stabilizer/conditioner.

Increase FC to about 5 until your SWG kicks-in and you get it adjusted. Keep pH in the 7.5-7.7 range - never above 7.8. Watching your FC and ensuring it never drops below 3 will be your most common chore to avoid algae. Hope that helps.

Thanks. It seems weird that the test strip would not include a test for CYA. I'll look into the Taylor kit.
