New pool (for free) over our head

The help setting up and chlorination with knowledge hasn't been available. Just found you guys. Been busy trying to patch holes.
22x52 ? Intex ultra frame. Hubby's coworker friend gave it to us. (He's active duty mil...been too busy) I've got a bunch of stuff, and Intex website is not helpful. Adult kids helped, we are all not trained in this. Local store doesn't do AG. Bought last two under water patches left. Wanted to be done for 24th, hubby's bday. Day after tomorrow. Help. I'm kind of sinking $$$...

Welcome to TFP. It is great that you will be starting out right and will be ahead of this. We would suggest that you add your pool details to your signature and read this post to help you know and understand why we need a signature, ,test kit and for you to post your numbers. What we need to know to answer your questions

You will need a good test kit for us to help you.

Take some time to read Pool School. Link at the top. With TFP, knowledge is power and control.

Once you get water in the pool, you need to add Bleach (Chlorine) to get the FC up. It can take just a matter of a few days without it for algae to start growing. You want to manage it from the start.

If it is 22x52x4, you have 31,100 gallons. Please confirm that.

Here are the basic steps. Use Pool Math to determine the right amount to add.
    1. Add bleach to get to FC of 4 Pool School - Chlorine / CYA Chart . In pool math enter a value of 0 in the Now column and 4 in the Target column. For 31100 gallon, you should get 182oz for 8.25% bleach.
    2. Add CYA to get it to 30 ppm (pool conditioner) (you can get it at lowes, HD, walmart) - Use pool math to determine the amount. Put it in a old sock and hang it in front of the return, squeeze it every once in a while to help it dissolve. It will take 2-4 days to fully dissolve and show up in the test (need that test kit)
    3. Add 1 gallon of bleach each day until you get the test kit.

Don't worry about anything else until you have a test kit and can post a full set of numbers.

There is no point buying a bunch of chemistry and adding it to your pool until you get the leaks stopped. Having the pool all ready to go by tomorrow doesn't seem very realistic.

Stop the leaks! There is nothing you should add to the water if it all leaks out tonight. Once the pool holds water, post back and we'll get you started.
