Repair crack in fitting

I over-tightened the fitting/union that connects my skimmer pipe to the pump housing basket and it cracked in half. I really need to put the two pieces back together as it would be much easier than getting a new end to my pipe. I tried using Waterweld which is a putty that supposedly hardens and it didn't work. Replacement is the way to go in this situation.

How do I replace it? Can I just buy the piece that cracked (not sure what it's called) or do I have to replace part of the pipe?

You need to order a new union. Yes, you'll have to cut the PVC and do some plumbing.
