use cleaner or bleach to get stains from Dolphin cleaner cartridge?

I have a Dolphin quest and after 6 mos, the cartridges are getting stained in spots. I don't want to purchase new cartridges yet since they are not cheap. Has anyone had success soaking the cartridges in a cleaner or bleach to remove stains and really clean them? I do clean with the hose after every cleaning cycle.
