Can't remove pump lid

At times I've always had some trouble getting my pump lid off to clear out my strainer basket, but I could eventually get it off after using some more elbow grease.

But after lubing the 'O' ring last week, I can't get the lid off now. For 3 days I've tried to the point where I've strained a muscle in my forearm.

Anyone have any suggestions before i take a sledgehammer to this pump and smash it out of spite?

Could be suction holding it, on try opening the pressure gauge on your filter and wait till the air sucking sound goes away then try the pump lid.

No air sucking sound occurs when i open the pressure gauge, water just drips down.

Tap it gently with a large rubber mallet. What did you use to lube the 0-ring.

Tapped all around the lid with a mallet, still won't budge...

I've been using a strap wrench on mine. they are very cheap.

I ended up using a large clamp with rubber grips. Learned my lesson on how tight it needs to be. Rest that arm, Its a long summer!

Also, don’t use Teflon based lube, it’s no good. Only use Silicone based lube (Boss 820, Jack’s 327 or magic lube II red label).

I'm definitely resting the arm for the night, I'm getting frustrated after each attempt.

Never had this much trouble in the 3 years I've had this pump. I guess I shouldnt have lubed the 'O' ring because that's what I did last time I opened it.

Use the rubber hammer to tap the lid handles counterclockwise.
