Is calcium needed in a vinyl liner pool?

Do I really need to add calcium to my vinyl liner pool or was that just the pool store trying to sell me something? My water looks great without it.

It doesn't matter in a vinyl pool. It's just the pool store employee trained to read a computer print out and tell you what to buy, regardless of your specific pool situation.
