Is there really a difference between a 20 and 27 (or 28) mil liner?

I've read on numerous online blogs/forums that there is really no difference between a 20 and a 27 mil liner...the latter will not actually extend the life of your liner. Would love to hear some experienced opinions on this subject, thanks so much!

the consensus here seems to be that there is little if any difference a 20 mil vs 27 mil as far as liner life.

just take good care of chemical levels to get the maximum time out of it.

if something sharp accidentally punctures the liner it won't matter the thickness.

save your money and go 20 (I did with a new liner install last fall)

Even though the former owners didn't use tfp method (they had an in-line chlorinator with tabs)
the liner I had replaced didn't fail until it's 22nd year. The installers were quite surprised.

I will tell you what the vynall liner guy told me.

The most prone part of the liner that fails are the walls. The weight of the water is constantly pulling on the walls its whole life.
27 mil walls will take more stress longer than will the 20 mil ones.

The bottom makes no difference according to the Vynall liner guy I talked to.

Is what he told me true? Im not sure, but it seems logical.

I went with 27/20 liner in my pool.
