Testing for borates?

I am thinking about adding some mule team borax to the pool. How do I test this? with strips I am assuming? I am also assuming my level is 0, since that isn't something that I add, but better check before I add anything. Just want to see if it will help to control the pH from drifting up and with algae. I just added a bottle of aquachem 50% algaecide the other day. All this rain stinks! At least we can't complain about a drought this year,LOL I hope anyways!

lulu, back to pool school for you! First, the aquachem algaecide is a linear quat, not what we recommend, which is polyquat 60!

LOL waterbear, I know I often go back and re-read pool school. I think I just need to print it out and keep it in my pool folder. heck right now I am just trying to keep it from turning green from all this darn rain that FL has been sending our way!

What is the difference between linear quat and polyquat?
