What chlorine should I buy?

Hi, Soon I will own a new house with a pool. This forum is helping me understand how i should take care of the pool.

Here in Puerto Rico I can only find 5.25% or 8.25% bleach at Walmart and Sams. The 5.25%(Great Value or Member"s Mark) at $1.50 for 128oz and the 8.25%(Clorox) at $3.26 for 121oz. What chlorine should I buy considering the price difference and chlorine concentration?

From a cost per active oz of chlorine perspective, the 128 oz 5.25% concentration is the lower cost option at a cost per oz of Active ingredient of $0.22 vs. $0.33 of the 121oz 8.25% container.

The formula to determine this is: Container Price/(Container Amount * Strength Concentration)

• 128 oz 5.25% option: $1.50 / (128 oz * .0525) = $0.22 cost per oz of Active ingredient
• 121 oz 8.25% option: $3.26 / (121 oz * .0825) = $0.33 cost per oz of Active ingredient
