I ran my Hayward sand filter in the closed position overnight and it blew the main hose to the pump. After reattaching the hose and positioning the multiport valve to "filter" I am hearing a gurgling noise under the multiport valve. Have I messed up?

Probably air in the system....no harm. Curious why you closed the system and tried to run the pump?
I don't have shutoff valves so to clean the basket, I put the filter in the closed position then remove the basket cover to take the basket out to clean it.
?? The pump is before the filter, I'm not sure closing the valve on the filter will do anything, once you pop the cover to the leaf basket the water pressure from the inlet is going to blow water everywhere.
Edit: maybe your setup is different than mine though -- but on mine it goes skimmer, leaf basket, pump, filter, return.
