TF 100 testing questions

hello,

rookie TF 100 testing kit user here -
1) When using the CYA test: the instructions are to fill till you no longer see the black dot in the bottom of the tube - what if the black dot turns grey at the very top of the tube (less than 20 CYA level) ? Does the black dot need to completely disappear from black to clear? or does the change from black to grey signify the correct level?

2) When using the chlorine drop test to get the free chloride level : when adding the R-0871 solution one drop at a time to change to color from pink to clear - how long do you wait between drops for it to stay clear? For my first test - it seemed like I was clear at 8 drops - but 30 sec later - the sample turned from clear back to a very very light shade of pink again

thanks for your help,
stevenpi

1. That means you have less than 20 CYA, but probably more than 0. Yes, completely disappear. Black to cloudy is a better way to put it.

It's best to do the CYA test in full sun, with your back to the sun, vial at waist height with two fingers. Squirt, glance, look away. Squirt, glance, look away.

2. The initial change is the one that counts. After you go clear, either dump it or do the CC test right away. The 30 second later change doesn't mean anything.

Great questions!
