CYA is high

Hello,

Somehow my CYA is sky high. Does adding baking soda impact CYA levels? Also, my pH is high. Can I lower my pH by adding muriatic acid without further increasing CYA?

Neither have anything to do with CYA.

How are you chlorinating your pool?

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing that my CYA has jumped up due to initially using pucks and haphazardly adding stabilizer. My current readings are: TC=1, CYA=180, Alkalinity=180, pH=8.2

Pool store told me to broadcast 8 cups of baking soda once per week to "prolong the life of my liner". Is there any truth to this or any benefit to regularly adding baking soda irrespective of alkalinity levels?

Your pool store is full of it. Only when you decide to do your own testing will you be able to manage your pool. Stay out of the pool store.....honest.

NO! there is no reason to randomly throw baking soda into the pool to protect your liner. Only add what your test results indicate needs to be adjusted.

I'm using 6-way test strips from walmart. I know I need to purchase a proper testing kit. It's on the list...
