    "natural stone" filter sand?

So, the wife and i followed some lackluster advice last year when diagnosing an issue with our pool and ended up replacing the sand in our filter. the sand that was recommended looked a lot more granular than the sand we removed, it looks like tiny rocks. the issue was fixed this year (pool hasn't run in a year) and despite the water tests coming back within range, if a bit low in some categories, the pool isn't becoming clear at all.

we have been shocking once per week, topping off the chlorine once per week, cyanuric acid is slightly low, but we keep adding it, PH is good, if not .2 too low when we shock it, and so on so on.

we have done all the pool store's recommendations, including 3 clear socks, some weird non-chlorine sanitizer and still, it's blue but milky cloudy.

is it possible that the filter sand we bought isn't working well?

It is possible, but the vast majority of the time that people come here and think they have filtration problems they really have chemistry problems, often due to following pool store recommendation.

    Welcome to TFP!

We are all about testing your own water with your own good and complete test kit and only adding precise doses of what you need to your pool. Not a bunch of chemicals and potions. As Ike said most pool problems are water chemistry problems and not filter problems. Although, I have never heard of the product you put in your sand filter. We always recommend using #20 silica sand in sand filters because that is what they were designed to use and they work great.

I live in Canada, so I have ordered a k-2006 kit from eBay and waiting for that to come in, keeping the liner clean and the chlorine high is all I can do at the moment, and follow pool store recommendations

"we have done all the pool store's recommendations"

    Well, there's your problem.

Do Not Ever Go Back To The Pool Store...ever!

Their only reason for being in business it to take YOUR hard-earned money and turn it into THEIR easily-earned money. They are worse than the Nigerian Prince email scams. I'm not kidding.

They sell you some potion, you put it in your water and nothing happens, so they sell you some more potions and again nothing happens etc. Suddenly your water is "no good" and you must drain and add some more potions, which they will gladly sell you. The cycle just keeps repeating while they make their house and boat mortgage payments with your money.
