My pool pump will not prime when set to waste. It primes with no issue when set to filter. I changed my sand and multi port valve today but that did not fix my issue. Does anyone here know a solution or anything else I could try? I'm at a loss at this point!!!

There might not be enough restriction on the discharge side of the pump and it is cavitating while trying to prime. Do you have a valve on the waste side you can partially close to restrict the flow until the pump primes? With no restriction and smaller diameter lines on the suction side, it would be fairly easy for the pump to run away from itself.
Thank you Brian. My lines are the same size. So I don't know if that's the issue but I will try restricting the flow on the waste side.
