Every year I deal with this. Open pool crystal clear put hose in to fill with well water turn on filter pool turns a nice green-Agua tint but water is crystal clear. Added metal and stain remover. Been 3 days water is still green.

Please edit your signature to include information about the pool such as pool type (above ground or in ground), surface (vinyl, plaster, or fiberglass), size in gallons, pump brand and horsepower, filter type (sand, DE, or cartridge), filter brand and size, and any water features, cleaning systems, and if there is a spa (attached or detached). Yes well water to top off pool. Don't know own about cooperating just added algacide from store
If you still have the container from the algaecide check the active ingredients. It should say whether or not there is copper in it. I would have a sample of your well water tested for iron. They can run this test at the pool store. If it is positive you will need to add and maintain sequestrant to prevent the iron from oxidizing and turning the water funky colors and staining the pool.
