What a great forum, so glad to be on.
Have an in ground pool 18x36 rectangular, and my liner is totally finished. Waiting to hear back for some quotes for a new liner, however, just realized the walls of the pool are very rusted. Still not sure if it's only superficial or deep through. Any suggestions ?

Hard to know exactly what caused the rust. Is your pool a salt water pool (SWG)? Can you provide a set of test results (to include salt if applicable) with a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006? Those results "may" help give us some clues to go on. Great to have you with us!
