I have 1 pump for the spa and pool and when the pump is driving the spa alone its to powerful. I was thinking of installing a smaller pump for the spa alone - but I would like an option to heat both the pool and spa should I choose too. Can it be done? If so can you point me the the diagram?

It would probably be simpler all the way around to replace your mega-motor with a two-speed or variable-speed motor. No plumbing mods at all. Just turn it down to a lower speed in spa mode. All the different valves and fittings you'd need to plumb two pumps would probably cost the same as just the motor, not even counting the expense of the second pump.
