New pool owner here. I have an above ground, vinyl 24' round pool and I'm needing to know where/how is the appropriate way to add CYA that is in granular form. Should it go in the skimmer, broadcast over the surface, or in a floating tablet pod thing. Thanks in advance.

Welcome. Get some cheap knee high stockings and add up to 2 lbs. at a time or so. Knot it and chunk it in the skimmer and leave the pump running till it dissolves. Make sure and don't starve the pump is all. Broadcasting is a NO-NO.

Welcome!

Yeah, what he said. Broadcasting it is a good way to end up with white freckles on the pool floor. Remember, CYA is an Acid. Pouring it in the skimmer so it settles in the filter could overwhelm the filter, which would signal the need for cleaning, which would cause you to lose all the undissolved stuff you just poured in. So we suggest putting the stuff in a sock or nylon and setting it in the skimmer. If you have no skimmer or it's too crowded, hang the sock off a pole in front of a return and let the flow pummel it into dissolving. People have also suspended the sock off an old puck floater or a pool noodle and let it just drift around in the pool. That is slow going without the vigorous water flow, but it's still better than broadcasting or overwhelming the filter.

How to add each chemical is explained in Pool School - Recommended Pool Chemicals
