We recently moved into our new home with a pool and are really excited to get started with enjoying our pool. Of course, if it was only that simple
Background: We have a 23,000 gallon Vinly liner pool with Sta-rite filter system (two concentric filter cartridges).
The pool has one skimmer and one Equalizer (no main drain) and it has two outlets.
Beginning: Being a first-timer, we got the pool opened by a professional pool company. The guy looked at the filter and said it needs to be cleaned and charged me extra $120 just for that.
Anyway, once it was all set and done, it seemed to be working fine. The flow looked good as much as I could tell. Our pressure gauge was broken so I don't know what was the pressure when the pool opening guy left.
Problem: We started noticing the flow getting very low, the skimmer losing suction and the pressure going high (by this time, I had replaced the broken gauge with a new one).
So the pressure reading was about 32 psi. I cleaned the filter (simply with a garden hose) and the pressure went down to about 25 but came back up to 35 in a few hours... flow still very low (it had improved slightly after cleaning the filters)
I have since cleaned the filter a few times and it has not made much of a difference. Then I found this thread
Cloudy water going on three weeks!!!!!!
b.t.w, the filter looks dirty and is slimy to touch even after I thoroughly rinse it with the garden hose
- Tried running the system without the filter cartridges: Pressure = 15 psi.... flow was great.. .water was gushing out the outlets
- Soaked the filters overnight in dishwasher detergent (in a bathtub since the filters are so big) -- just replaced the filters this morning and the flow was still very good, almost as good as it was without the filters. Pressure reading: about 18 psi. Woohooo! (NOTE: The filter still looked equally dirty and slimy even after the overnight soak but something happened to them to release the pressure so significantly)
The real problem: After about an hour, I went back out to check on how it was doing: flow looked visibly slower and the pressure reading was 28 psi
While I was still out there (like for 10 minutes), the flow looked even slower.
The real question: What should I do now. 1) Soak the filters in acid (if yes, which acid)? 2) Buy a new set of filters (I see them available for about $300), 3) try something else
Any response is much appreciated.
Thanks and enjoy your pool.
