When our pump is in sleep mode and the hoses are open (unlocked), the leaf trap has water leaking out of it. What would cause this to happen?

There are so many type of leaf traps on the market, it would be nice to see a pic if you can upload one. Also, just to make sure ..... by any chance you aren't referring to the pump's strainer basket are you? Generally when water squirts or leaks out when the pump is off it's a sign the rubber O-ring gasket is bad or missing.
