Blanket statements on chlorine amount

I'm sure you guys have seen this but multiple sources, ranging from local health departments, to random stuff like Arm and Hammer Baking Sodas swimming pool recommendations, make blanket statements about chlorine amount such as "free chlorine should be kept within 1-3ppm"

Isn't this misleading with no discussion of CYA? I'm holding around 5-6 ppm, almost double the "suggestion" but I've used this forum's method and know about my CYA.

Are they oversimplifying? Seems like the poor guy adding pucks to get to 2ppm will be destroyed once his CYA is off the charts over time. Unless stabilized chlorine does still disinfect and I'm the one who is using too much.

This just got me thinking ...

Good post! The problem is municipalities do not understand the FC/CYA ration=o.

We do and it is based on solid science so I expect that these municipalities, etc, will come around to new thinking over time.

It's hard to move them when they are super-entrenched but it will happen.
