Re: Robert 1906

Thanks!

Looking at the pictures, it appears to me that it's a pressure fit. When you pull up on the old piece, does it move at all?

Maybe a call to Pentair is warranted???

Oh wait, I just found something on the Inyopools.com site....... Pentair Center Core, 150, 200 Predator (59053800) - INYOPools.com

The filter core broke near the bottom of the core in the filter tank. How do I replace the filter core? The picture you have of the core shows a round piece near the bottom of the core. My core broke above the round piece. Does the round piece come out of the tank? If so, how do I get it out? My filter system is a Predator 150 sf. It was installed in 1997 and the core was replaced under warranty in 2000. Can you tell me the part # I need to order the core? Thank you!!

Hi, According to the Pentair Clean and Clear Owners Manual the core by placing hands in lifting handles of the core and pull straight up. The Center Core, 150, 200 (59053800) will be the correct replacement for your unit.

While it appears they may be referring to the slots on the upper area of the new part - it seems that the entire element assembly is removed by pulling straight up and then the actual cartridge is removed from the assembly for cleaning. In your case, the "tube" is broken off. But the lower portion should be removable by pulling up on it - maybe the outer edge, a little at a time?

Besides that, I haven't a clue.

View attachment 48546 Here is a pic of the center core base that I am trying to remove.

In this pic - the four vertical protrusions on the tan colored tank - does it appear that those are holding the black piece in? Maybe slipping something under the black part near those protrusions and pulling up a little. Then move to the next protrusion, etc.??

Finally got it removed. Had to use the end of a hammer and it popped right off... Thanks everyone... I put in the new core and new cartridge and stated the pump about 30 mins ago. The Psi was between 5-10 but now it's close to 20... I started the slam process but does the PSG rise that fast? Also there is a white haze in the pool. The haze is also in filter and almost looks like soap film. Here is a pic of the pool.

Good job on removing the base.

Yes, the filter pressure can increase a bit quick when you have algae and are slamming. As to the foamy look - is it possible you may have used some splash-less beach? Plain old generic bleach is what is recommended - no additives for scent or splash-less. I guess it's possible even one bottle of splash less could give that result.

If it's the generic Walmart 8.25%, that's fine. I think the scented or splash-less says that on the label.

You can also check in the Walmart pool section for "Chlorinating Liquid", it's been on sale in many parts of the country for $2.50/gallon. Be aware -it's 10%, so make sure to set that in the Poold Math page to get the correct dosage. Also, check the date codes.... 16120 was manufactured the 120th day of 2016 (around the end of April). The higher the number the fresher it is.

EDIT - the Walmart splash-less says "Easy Pour" in BIG letters on the label.

062 is March 2 - I think. It may have lost some of its potency... but shouldn't be the cause of the foaminess. If you decide to get more of that, dig through it and get the freshest they have. At $2.50/gallon, it's still cheaper than the Walmart generic 8.25% in the laundry isle for $2.98/121 ozs.
